07:09 AM ET 07.17 | Reunion time? The Los Angeles Lakers are "close" to hiring Kurt Rambis for their coaching staff, a source with knowledge of the situation said Tuesday. Rambis, an ESPN analyst, has been an assistant coach with the Lakers on and off between 1994 and 2009. He was Phil Jackson's lead assistant for all five of his championships with the Lakers. In 2009, he left to become coach of the Minnesota Timberwolves, but was fired after just two seasons with the rebuilding club. His return to the Lakers is seen as a stabilizing force because of his experience and institutional knowledge of the franchise. Rambis has been seen in Las Vegas, spending time watching summer league games alongside Lakers coach Mike D'Antoni and his brother, Dan.

As long as that fella sitting in that picture comes back. It doesn't matter who's on the bench as a player or coach.

This team is going nowhere.

Well that fella in the picture would surely take them farther than what they'd go without him.

Hope I didn't reveal his identity...

As a life long Lakers fan, I am inclined to agree 100%

But Kobe-nite is gonna be his undoing regardless.....

I guess they couldn't find a picture of Kurt

Nice! The Mad Dog was already added last week. Maybe they'll bring in Chuck Nevitt next week.

Not really.

With ninja boy coming back, you can't sign anyone worthy of signing.

Three reasons:

1. No superstars want to play with him.
2. And if there was one, you couldn't pay him.
3. Again, if there was one, he would have to guard Kobe's man, and his.

Do you really believe ninja boy is worth $30 million. Never in his entire life has he been worth that. And he sure isn't worth that 35yrs old on one leg.

But you know I'm loving it, the Spurs keep getting to kick that butt, for as long as he is a Laker, this is guaranteed.

Oh I know that aren't going anywhere regarless. I'm just saying that the curren roster, minus Kobe, DEFINITELY won't make the playoffs. With Kobe, they at least have a shot to make the 7-8th seed and be a 1st round exit again.

Everytime I turn around the Lakers are making another bade decision. It's like someone rained Isaiah on them.

The Lakers want to sign Phil Jackson light? They also signed 'Mad Dog' as the 'big man' coach? Both of these moves are lame. Maybe they really are trying to tank this next season?

How do you know that this is a bad decision??? Do you have some insight on the Lakers, or is it just "your" opinion???

How much would the Lakers "still" have to pay Kobe, if there were to cut him off the roster today??
