07:27 AM ET 07.17 | While no longer on the ice, Joe Sakic and Patrick Roy may have more to do with Colorado's success than ever, and they both like what they see from No. 1 pick Nathan MacKinnon's speed. It might be the one attribute of [MacKinnon's] game that will allow him to have early success in his NHL career. "People are going to be very surprised by his speed, especially his starts, the 1-2-3, he's really fast," said Avalanche head coach Patrick Roy. ... "He's one of the fastest guys I've seen. He's has that NHL skating ability, no doubt in my mind." For Roy and executive vice president of hockey operations Joe Sakic, they expect MacKinnon to be on the organization's 23-man roster when the 2013-14 regular season begins. ... "We believe he is ready," Sakic said.

What's Roy supposed to say?

"Damn - we really screwed the pooch with that pick, didn't we?"

So, he skates fast. That's great, but can he shoot, pass, backcheck?

The "Pooch" didn't have Shea Weber ridding shotgun then. And ... "the Pooch" has an ax to grind.

Yea, but wouldn't it be fun if some disgruntled GM who was on the way out gave a news conference and said stuff like that.
