07:27 AM ET 07.17 | One day after becoming an early retiree from hockey, Blake Geoffrion picked up his first post-playing career job -- as a scout with Columbus. Geoffrion, 25, suffered a depressed skull fracture while playing for the AHL's Hamilton Bulldogs on Nov. 9, 2012. He has not skated competitively since, and was told by doctors he should not play again. "It's definitely tough to think about never playing again," Geoffrion said. "But it's bittersweet, because I'm excited about this, the next chapter, the next opportunity. I can't wait to get started. I've always followed depth charts, and I've always kept track of the players in this league, what they can and can't do." ... Geoffrion's grandfather was Bernie "Boom Boom" Geoffrion; his great grandfather was Howie Morenz.

Best of luck, kid.

I was hoping Blake could one day sip from Lord Stanley's Cup as a team exec since his chance to raise it over his head with skates on has prematurely passed. This is a good first step.

Good for him. Columbus should be improved so hopefully he has a nice career with them.

Nice.

It's not like he died or anything, he's just move on to a different career.

Scotty Bowman did similarly.
