Pro Bowl crowd boos Patriots

Some Patriots played in a Pro Bowl sauna yesterday at Aloha Stadium, but their reception from the sellout crowd of 50,044 was ice cold. The six Patriots who played in the all-star game in 80-degree temperatures and on artificial turf that was hot to the touch were greeted with a surprisingly emphatic chorus of boos during introductions yesterday. Cornerback Asante Samuel, linebacker Mike Vrabel, nose tackle Vince Wilfork, center Dan Koppen, tackle Matt Light, and guard Logan Mankins followed a standard-bearer of the Patriots logo onto the field amid fireworks as the crowd erupted with the only negative greeting it accorded any of the game's participants.

you're an arse. You have to start this scrap before I even have coffee?
Like its the Patriots responsibility to tell FN what photos to use on their site?
God, please move to the west coast. Or better yet, Texas.

Boos? Damn, It look likes the public perception of the team is that they are cheaters who falsely won three titles. Once the public latches onto something like that, it becomes more fun to run with it than to examine it further.

I would call the public fickle, but the Patriots of this decade were never really loved by the overall football fanbase (except, of course, the Patriots fans). There wasn't as many bandwagoning fans as a lot of teams normally get when they're on top. Even Tampa Bay gained a larger following after their appearance. Usually, when a team is on top, you have to put up with a million people claiming to be fans (even though they do not follow football).

It looks almost as if the public was looking and waiting for an excuse to cut loose with the hating. I wonder why more people didn't like the Pats?

do you think that s more because they know the rules and the facts of the case or because of media distortion of the facts?

Same reason people hate the yankees...arrogance.

February 11, 2008  08:05 AM ET

yes, it is REALLY sad (not) to think that the patriots would get booed after all they have been through, you know, like being the first 18-1 team to NOT win the super bowl, being accused of cheating, etc. good, they got what they deserved. only thing that would have been better is if that as>(ole coach had been there too.
