Parcells' surprising take on his best coaching

06:55 AM ET 07.18 | When it's "the groceries" who win football games, coaches grade on a curve. Bill Parcells said his best performance during a 22-year National Football League coaching career might have been with an 8-8 New York Jets team, not his two Super Bowl-champion New York Giants squads. Parcells, who will be inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame on Aug. 3, said his best coaching was in 1999, with a Jets team that lost starting quarterback Vinny Testaverde for the season in its opening game and was 1-6 before rallying to a .500 finish. "Holding that team together to accomplish that was probably one of the better things," Parcells, 71, said on a media conference call. "Most coaches will tell you, when you start 1-6 it's tough to maintain the things you need to be successful."

And his worst coaching job was in Super Bowl XXXI when he was more interested in his next job.

The Packers were a 14 point favorite to win that game. They won 35-21. maybe the other team was just better?

They were, but the best team doesn't always win. I thought the Kraft/Parcells drama took its toll on the team.

Classic Logo. Reminds me of Gino Cappelletti and those early teams that played on NBC. Still have some of those cards. Quite a few actually.

I thought his best job was convincing JJ that Drew Bledsoe still had some left in the tank.
