Coach: Adrian needs improvement

Posted: Monday February 11, 2008 06:52AM ET

Vikings coach Brad Childress is confident Adrian Peterson will be that much better in Year 2. Two areas in which Childress wants to see Peterson progress are in his pass protection and in making reads while running the ball. Peterson, who missed two games because of a knee injury, frequently was replaced by Chester Taylor on passing downs because of concerns about his ability to pick up would-be rushers. Peterson's need to improve in the latter phase became evident late in the season as more teams focused on containing him. He did not reach 100 yards rushing in any of the last four games.

It's Not!

How was this presented by Childress? Because to come out and just say "He needs to get better" is just ludicrous when you consider AD is the only reason Childress still has a job.

Wow - I didnt know Childress has such high standards...

I wonder what Childress is saying to Tavris Jackson

Everyone has room for improvement. I'm sure even Walter Payton wasn't the best ever in his rookie year.

If Peterson is out, it's generally a tell that they're passing. If AD can learn to block then the defense is still kept guessing.

Everybody does need to improve. I'm sure if you talked to Brady, LT, Manning, etc. they would have something to work on in the offseason.

Report Offensive Comment

Don't we all need improvement??

Report Offensive Comment

Oso, big bear. Where have you been son? Everyone is asking about you.

Report Offensive Comment

Adrian Peterson has only played one season in the NFL. Of course he needs to imporve, along with everyone else.

Report Offensive Comment

Well this T&R gets a big DUH. How many other rookies don't need to get better after their first year. I never saw a guy peak in his first year.

Report Offensive Comment

If he says Adrian needs improvement, god help the rest of the team....

Report Offensive Comment

Could Brad Childress be better in 2 more years?

Report Offensive Comment

Is it possible that the "article" was taken out of text? It wouldn't be the first time. Plus, you want to keep a rookie wanting more, not become satisfied too soon and start demanding a trade to a better team.

Report Offensive Comment

Maybe he should learn to lower his shoulder more and not take so many hits to the body. He does have things he needs to work on.

Report Offensive Comment

Everyone needs improvement at something. No one is perfect. So, the point of this story is...?

Report Offensive Comment

What the hell is he supposed to say? "No, he doesn't need any improvement. He's perfect in every way."

Report Offensive Comment

I think Childress needs a lot of improvement and alot of love.

Report Offensive Comment

Childress needs to stfu and realize that if he wants to win games AD needs to get at least 20 carries. That is an absolute minimum. I've never seen a running back who gets better as the game goes on like that, and if you give him 25 carries, he'll get 150 yards, even if they put 11 in the box. Childress is an idiot who got lucky in the draft. When your line is that good and your RB is that good, you don't ever need to pass the ball. In the last two games, AD got 20 carries combined. Not suprisingly, they lost those two games and missed the playoffs.

Report Offensive Comment

Yeah, he does need improvement on blitz pick up, thats all Childress was talking about... However, as AD showed in the pro bowl that what he really needed was more time to heel up that knee injury, oh, and having a competent QB didn't hurt either.... can't wait to see #28 in '08!

As far as i am concerned he needs to jsut improve in not getting injured. Almost led the league in rushing if not for the injury.

Adrian is special. Knew it when he played for OU, know it now. Guy is electrifying. Stay healthy, AP.
