07:03 AM ET 07.18 | The Mike D'Antoni era rolls on in Los Angeles, and it already looks quite different than it did when it started. "There was just a lot of conflict, emotionally," D'Antoni said. "People were not settled in their roles. But it's funny because a lot of times players will say 'I don't know my role.' It's not that you don't know it, you just don't accept it." [Dwight Howard] never accepted his, although appeasing him as a prominent low-post option also wasn't practical because he simply wasn't healthy enough to carry that load. "The only thing that cracks me up is (the question) 'Why didn't you go through him more?' " D'Antoni said. "Well, he was hurt. Why would we go through him if he's hurt? You have to (factor) that in."

Ouch!

July 18, 2013  07:34 AM ET

okay he was hurt and was only 80% healthy, but he was still better than most of the other big men

July 18, 2013  08:29 AM ET

LOL that was not a good reason dude. If he is that hurt why play him the minutes you did?

July 18, 2013  09:02 AM ET

You're Just Dumb, Bro.

July 18, 2013  09:08 AM ET

He was hurt? wow throwing your ex-center under the bus to defend your system? Just say that in my system I don't need a center, and move on!
It's OK to play with lilliputs.

July 18, 2013  09:17 AM ET

His system is horrible! All offense no defence.

July 18, 2013  09:28 AM ET

How could they go to DH when Kobe wouldn't let them?

They will never face the real problem? KOBE!

DH, knew this so he left and that was definitely the right move if he wants to be playing in the playoffs.

Dantoni's 'system' does not go through a dominant big man. Instead of taking a shot at Howard he should be a man and admit that Dwight just did not fit his system. Strange as it seems, the loss of Earl Clark will be a bigger impact on the Lakers than Howard.

The Lakers by selecting Dantoni have committed to his small ball run and gun offense. With the reshaping of the roster there will be no more excuses when they fail again.

Earl Clark is pretty good but not great. More importantly he fits the DA system and can fill the role of a stretch four since he does seem to have range on his shots.

Maybe thats why they picked him up... for the stretch 4 with a little possiblity he can play the 3 too

Has D'Antoni lost is ever-loving mind? He has at least lost his sense of reality. Howard's number were respectable last year and the choice of going in the paint to him or MWP lofting 3's (he shot 412, the most on the team and made 34%) is obvious. This guys really stinks and is taking the Lakers down.

D'Antoni's offense doesn't feature a center because he's never had one. The Flakers are getting what they deserve. D'Antoni should never have gotten the job in the 1st place. I still can't believe that Jim Buss said he was a "better fit for this team" than Phil Jackson.

July 18, 2013  11:10 AM ET

I can't believe this guy still coaches the Lakers. They chose Dumbtoni over Howard. His response just showed how clueless he is which makes him so stupid. His freaking system is not catered for low post players. Using Howard's health as an excuse not to go to him is just plain dumb. Howard played through the injuries but yet this dumb coach didn't even bother using him! smh

What's the over-under for number of games before D'Antoni is fired? Gotta be higher than the 5 games Mike Brown got... but not much.
