07:22 AM ET 07.18 | After a season in Zurich, Gilbert Brule is attempting an NHL comeback. Brule told the Vancouver Province he had an adverse relationship with his father and it may have contributed to his demise as an everyday NHLer. The 26-year-old free-agent forward alleged his father, Chris Brule, was stealing his money and threatening to release inappropriate photos. "I'm not the type of person to come out and speak ill of my father, but I am at the point where I feel the hockey world needs to have a bit better insight into my life," Brule said. After seeking professional help, Brule went on medication to curb issues with depression. He has since been taken off the drugs and feels ready to return to the NHL.

There are dead beat dads who leave families in the lurch.

This one appears to be a dirt bag dad.

QUOTE(#17):

It's gross how many fathers feel they're "owed" by their sons for all the time and money they put into helping their son's dreams come true. As if that isn't their effin job as fathers in the first place.Or my favourite ones, the dads who get mad when his son simply doesn't have what it takes and chooses a different direction in life, as if they absolutely 100% HAD to become pro's because you woke up too many mornings at 5 am and spent way too much on hockey sticks for them to wind up in SCHOOL! The horror! There aren't enough old barns to put these deadbeats in and torch.

??????

I remember watching Brule in junior and thinking he was "can't miss!" I was wrong and wondered what happened. Now that I know I can't say depression and having a dirt bag dad were in my top-5 guesses. Hope he recovers and gets his game back, kid is/was good!
