Pirates eying Rios, Ramirez

07:06 AM ET 07.19 | Yes, Pittsburgh may be buying. The surprising Pirates are said to be among the teams seeking to acquire White Sox outfielder Alex Rios, and people familiar with Pittsburgh's thinking suggest they wouldn't be surprised if the Pirates expand the talks to include Sox shortstop Alexei Ramirez, as well. The Pirates, who enter the second half a shocking 19 games over .500, are looking to improve their lineup and bench, and an acquisition of either or both White Sox players could accomplish that. Pittsburgh has done a superb job pitching but scouts question whether its offense will be enough to sustain a playoff run. "They definitely need a right fielder," one National League scout said.

It's not shocking that the Pirates are so far over .500 at the All-Star break. It's the third straight year they've been that good in the first half of the season. The record collapses the last two years, that was shocking! It will be very interesting to watch the Pirates in the second half to see if they finish strong for a change!!!

Let's Go Bucs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!??!

The Pirates need to upgrade their bench for a playoff run (touch wood). Their pinch hotter options are poor at best. Whether it's via internal promotion (T. Sanchez) or trade NH needs to act. A bench bat shouldn't cost too much. I don't want the Pirates to give up the farm for a RF or SS. I think they can fill those two holes internally and already have at SS by promoting Mercer.

* hitter not hotter options.

Stupid autocorrect!

So what is the story with Alex Presley? Has he turned out to be just a career AAA player?

It will be interesting to see how they do the next week or so. Will they panic if that hit a rough patch?

Hasta luego.

It would be a mistake for Bucs management to stand pat.

So who does they give up for Rios? Don't think they'd give up Heredia or Polanco, right?

It would be nice to see the W. Sox pick up some Bona fide prospects.

A shock to their putrid minor league system, for sure.

Good question! He's been called up a few times this year but never seems to stick.
