Buchholz' injury saga has Boston looking

07:07 AM ET 07.19 | Though Clay Buchholz hasn't picked up a ball since this past Sunday, it seems the Red Sox aren't ready to change their approach to the trade deadline -- yet. One source suggested that the club will be "selective" in adding to what it already views as strong rotation depth, although it's also worth noting that declaring their need for another starter would decrease leverage in any potential deal. Multiple sources have suggested the Sox are monitoring the market for starters, including the Cubs' Matt Garza, but may still be prioritizing other needs, namely the bullpen and possibly third base. Besides, unless the Phillies ultimately decide to trade ace lefty Cliff Lee, a bona fide front-of-the-rotation starter may not be available before July 31.

Despite the league leading record, this is still a bridge year. They will come back to earth almost immediately after the break but Sox should not change their strategy. They'd risk an extended competitive run over the next 5 years just to play a few extra games this fall. nope. Stay the course.

A report in the sports page this morning said Buttholez is still sore. Doesn't sound like he'll be back any time soon. I think they should trade Pedrioa to the Rays for Roberto Hernandez. Yeah ... that's the ticket.

I'm leaning that way too.
The Sox have good minor league depth, so trading some won't cripple their future, but it has to be selective. They are loading up for a long run as a WS threat every year.

Orioles Homer, rose colored glasses.
Birds will always be trying to catch the BoSox--it's in the league rule book!

Curt Schilling, Mr. Know-It-All, was on sports-talk radio this week implying that Buchholz was a wuss, "...you have to pitch when you are hurting...".

He is a wuss. He's missed almost 2 months with nothing more than a neck strain.
