12:39 PM ET 07.19 | As the Dallas Cowboys continue to search for offensive line help, they plan on reaching out to free agent tackle Demetress Bell. The two sides have reportedly agreed to a deal that is pending a physical. The former seventh-round pick has played with the Philadelphia Eagles and Buffalo Bills during his short career during which he's notched 35 starts. He is also the son of former NBA star Karl Malone.

Probably won't help

I never heard of this guy.

I agree with everyone else, he probably doesn't help. The problem is, if the Cowboys think he is an upgrade in any way shape or form, it's just a continuation of JJ not addressing the problems with the O-line.

I wish that was the only problem Jerry fosters.

Pretty sure he's just there to back up Tyron Smith.

Bell had 4 starts and 9 games played last year in Philadelphia.

That's on an offensive line that:
- Was widely considered one of the worst in the league
- Finished the season with four offensive linemen (including both offensive tackles) on IR.

Meanwhile Demetress Bell, the 2nd-string offensive tackle, could barely stay on the field with almost no competition.

I'd rather sign an undrafted rookie.

From what I read online he played well in Buffalo before getting hurt in 2011.

Maybe injuries are holding him back more than a lack of talent.

He did. Him and Erik Pears were an excellent duo. (Pears being the better of the two)

But then again Ryan Harris used to look pretty awesome bookending with Ryan Clady. And we now know only one of those guys actually had any sustainable talent.

Ironically both Demetress Bell and Ryan Harris managed to tour through Philadelphia during the height of their decline.

Good point on Harris. A few years ago I was pretty sure the Broncos has two of the premier tackles in football. I was wrong.

In all honesty I don't recall him playing in Philly, though.

They picked him up in 2011 during the "Dream Team" spending spree.

I was excited. Thought he was the most underrated signing off their off-season. Then he didn't even make the roster. They cut him before the regular season started.

He couldn't make Denver's roster in 2012. He dropped off the radar fast.

...whatever.

Damn. Dude fell far, quick.

Kinda shocking, really.

Just had to throw that Karl Malone bit in there... Funny how they don't share the same last name - just a trademark of the black athlete I guess.

Funny that JJ can't remember that when the Cowboys were great, their O-Line was insanely great. Picking up bums from teams with their own OL concerns is NOT gonna get them back to where they once were. That, and their secondary is still a mess.

Had to look it up. It seems Karl the "mailman" Malone, his father, started his deliveries early in life. He was 20 when Demetress was born. Mom was 13.

Stuff ya cannot make up.

Karl has issues with it. the court and tests say there is no issue Dad. I don't think they get together on Fathers day.

Boomer calls him Deleterious Bell.

July 20, 2013  09:48 AM ET

At least he's in the same division!

So Demetress Bell is the product of statutory rape.

And Karl Malone avoided jail time.

Interesting.
