09:18 AM ET 07.21 | Former Dolphins offensive lineman Vernon Carey, who retired abruptly last summer, received text message inquiries from Cowboys coach Jason Garrett and others in the past year and lost 40 pounds working out at Fast Twitch Performance Training in Miami, with the thought of possibly making a comeback. But Carey decided against it.

He was a first round pick in 2004. Has signed contracts for over $60 million in his career. Got most of it too. He is a NFL success story really. Lasted nine years, made some serious cash, is not beat up so bad he cannot function in life and is now a HS football coach in Miami.

Smart move on his part.

This is the guy who should be talking to rookies during all those symposiums. Did his job, got paid, got out with his health and has a plan for life after football.

Absolutely. but the NFL keeps putting up failures and saying " don't do what i did." Why not put up success stories and say " Look, I am not special. If I could do it then you can too."

Not on subject, but Tiger Woods did not win the British Open! He represents the United States of America about like Obama. It is always something like Tiger Woods in the Chase, etc. , why not just mention who is the leader?

On subject, all that work for nothing. Well, maybe not for nothing, he is in good shape now, stay that way. Good Luck with remainder of your life. Prosper and be happy.

No one heard of him because he wasn't getting arrested for stupid stuff every year. I hope he makes a great HS coach and whatever he does from there. The guy definitely has good judgement.
