10:26 AM ET 07.21 | Matt Garza's stay in Chicago was extended for at least another day, leaving him on schedule to pitch Monday night against the Diamondbacks. A trade to the Rangers allegedly was "close" according to a report Friday morning, but Garza was still in the dugout being Garza during Saturday night's 9-3 loss to the Rockies. Texas general manager Jon Daniels told reporters "We're doing our normal work" when asked about trade possibilities Saturday, declining to be specific. Speculation out of Texas is there are some questions about the health of third base prospect Mike Olt, who suffered a concussion in the Dominican Republic Winter League and is struggling at Triple-A Round Rock.

Two month rentals just don't bring in what they used to. Teams are most likely offering garbage, as could be expected. The Cubs should just hang on to him

It seems the Cubs aren't getting as much for Garza as they should, IMO. A struggling Olt, a AA pitcher...and that's it?

For a good, not great often injured pitcher who will most likely end up being a 2 month rental, you're not going to get very much these days. Throw in the fact that the any team that acquires him, won't even be entitled to a compensation draft pick when he leaves, makes it even tougher for Theo to get anything of value. IMO the Cubs should just keep him and take the draft pick themselves.

Price is always the problem if you can't sell.

Olt is still a top 40 prospect. Edwards and Ramirez are two of the better pitching prospects in the Rangers system behind Jackson and Perez. Alfaro was being talked about, but think they settled on Olt. How is that garbage?

Seems like we have been hearing for years about how great Mike Holt is gonna be. He's almost 25 years old and he's still in the minors. Theo's strength in Boston was the draft, he should keep Garza and use the compensation pick on his own player.

They are obviously holding out for something better. Olt is struggling now, and that is not what they want to see. They may settle on him anyway.

Exactly. Better to offer him that $13+ million in the off season. Ya either get a first round pick for him from some team or you have him another year to try again. It is not like he is a total bum. He has value.

On the plus side of the ledger, a concussed players is more likely to enjoy playing on an inept team of longtime losers like the Cubbies, and would, therefore, fit in well.

No trade yet just means the interns get to keep posting Garza to 'fill in blank' stories several times a day.....
