Arrogant Weis upset Irish alums
Posted: Monday February 11, 2008 08:31AM ET
Charlie Weis tossed aside his Jersey swagger long enough to admit the obvious: He was a lousy coach last year. And he can't save himself by bringing in shiny new recruiting classes every year. He needs to change. That means he'll no longer call the plays that produced 242.3 yards per game, worst in the nation. He "screwed up" the special teams last year by concocting a plan to involve almost every assistant coach. Now the mission falls solely on assistant Brian Polian, although Weis will try to poach ideas from Virginia Tech's Frank Beamer during a pre-spring practice get-together. Weis also plans to meet with various alumni groups he has cheesed off with his arrogance. Weis attributed the face-time plan to a new NCAA rule barring head coaches from evaluating prospects from April 15-May 31.

The blogger who wrote this column follows the ESPN model perfectly: on average, you will generate more internet interest if you mention ND than if you don't and if you do, being negative is best for business. Imagine a coach saying that he needs to learn and adjust.
This guy couldn't find the "pulse" of a ND alumni group if his life depended upon it. What a joke.

Report Offensive CommentThe guy who wrote the column isn't making stuff up. Weis thought he could run things his own way and realized he was just doing it ALL wrong. Heck, his own players don't like him! That's not a way to run a football program. Charlie better WEIS up and and start changing his ways or he'll find himself out of a job soon. The only question is, "how does an arrogant guy who thinks his poop don't stink change his stripes so quickly?" Seeing is believing..

Report Offensive Commentso whose decision was it to go with the word 'arrogant'? -- pretty prejudicial, judgmental word for a supposedly objective news story. is the writer calling Weiss arrogant? is it a quote from someone else? how about naming the alumnus who said it? what qualifies the labeler to determine what constitutes 'arrogance'? judge not lest thee be judged, my friends.

Report Offensive CommentA man with the girth as large as Weiss shouldnt be arrogant about anything. Except maybe about his fork handling skills.

Report Offensive Commentif people would have read all the negative comments about how
CW handled this team last year would realize that eveything that
he changed for the up coming season has addressed all the issues
he was critisized for last year. Now whether these comments are
just lip service to quiet the natives, or if they are honest attempts
to right the ship only time will tell at this point. I think for any head
coach today to make the kind of statements that CW has made this
past week is more of "good for him, it looks like he's starting to get
it now" instead of what an arrogant SOB. He looks like he is looking
out for the best interests of the program, and I think being a bigger
person to air out his short comings as a coach, and trying to change.
We shall see next year if things will actually start to change, b/c they
need to if he is going to have any success as a college HC. This
should not be something he should be critisized for at this point, but
instead he should be commended for his self-evaluation. How many
div.1 coaches today would go out in public and admitt all their short
comings, b/c most of them are all ego maniacs.
