Did the Pats pull contract from troubled player?

07:00 AM ET 07.23 | Monday was far from typical in Patriots Nation, and so was the way New England added undrafted rookie defensive tackle Anthony Rashad White. [Before that], the Pats actually passed on undrafted rookie defensive tackle John Drew, according to a source. Not just that, but Drew was at Gillette, passed his physical and had a contract in hand before the Patriots opted to go in White's direction, according to the source. It's still unclear why exactly the Patriots turned away from Drew, who has since left town and is lining up other workouts. It's not common for a player to have a contract in hand before learning of an undesirable fate, but these things are known to happen. However, Drew does have a troubled past. Drew played his freshman season at Duke before he and two teammates were arrested and kicked out of school for firing a gun into the air on campus.

ONE less than they would have had if they signed this guy. Looks like they're trying to tighten things up.

Fallout from Aaron Hernandez.

Better late than never, I guess.

just as many as the other 31 teams,.....umm,.....maybe except a ''murderer''....?!

#174954 is due back in court this week for some procedural thing. Thousands of dollars, at least, in taxpayer costs for absolutely nothing but administrative brouhaha. Watch for a big press turnout, too, and maybe even a thread or five to tell us that there's nothing new to report.

Or, maybe they just thought White would be the better guy to sign, issues or not.

There ya go. Risk vs reward. Every team does it.

Firing a gun on a school campus...

Real friggin' genius right here.

The Pats announced yesterday that Belichick will hold a previously unscheduled media conference tomorrow.
He will be besieged with questions about Hernandez and Dennard. It will be fascinating to see how he handles such hostile questioning.

So, does that put the Pats in the lead?

Any question they ask Belichick about Hernandez would be a stupid question. He's not on the team any more so why would any reporter be so foolish as to ask the coach about him.

In his usual deadpan manner, he'll point out that Aaron Hernandez is no longer a member of the team, and no further comment is necessary. Dennard will get the "we'll see how the judicial process goes" answer. He will suggest "William" or "Thomas" as a name for the royal baby.

Just a small red flag....

Crisis averted. If you have "off field issues", you better not be an undrafted free agent in July. You'll most likely stay that way.

July 23, 2013  10:17 AM ET

If you do away with all the troubled players, you won't have much of an NFL.

Could have been course related. It is not like these guys, for many of them , are biology majors. It is a final exam at some SEC schools.
