07:08 AM ET 07.23 | And then there were ... three. Greg Oden will host three teams this week as the former No. 1 overall pick nears a decision on where he'll launch his NBA comeback, according to sources with knowledge of the free-agent center's plans. Sources say that the San Antonio Spurs and Dallas Mavericks -- which had face-to-face meetings with Oden last week -- also remain in contention for the 7-footer's services. But the Heat and Spurs established themselves as the front-runners to land Oden last month and, according to one source close to the process, remain the co-favorites to sign him. ... The pursuit of Oden was accelerated last week in Las Vegas when the 25-year-old sat down with representatives from the Mavericks and Kings. A scheduled meeting with the Pelicans in Las Vegas, sources said, was in the process of being rescheduled for this week.

Where will he be hosting? At the end of the bench where he belongs?

Seriously, just sign already. There are as many Oden threads as there were Dwight threads when he was going to sign, and Oden is nowhere near his level.

These teams offer different things
Pels: I guess a quiet comeback with not alot of media attacking him
spurs: they have more cap space so they could sign him for more, plus he'd be in title contention, and gets to learn from timmy
heat: end of the bench minutes, title contention
mavs:...........the free chicken that dwight missed out on

I don't get the fascination with this guy.He will MAX give a team 6-8 points, 6-8 boardsHe hasn't played in years and he wasn't an impact player before he got hurtAnd there is a MUCH higher chance that he plays under 30-40 games than overWhy take such a risk when the ceiling is low?

Its probably his size.how many 7 footers can you get around 3mil. Besides its a low risk high reward gamble. If the team that picks him up plays him 15-20 maybe 25 minutes a game while not playing him in back to backs he should be fine for about 60...maybe 70 games

saw something that said hes been doing yoga. Hopefully that helps him

Did the pursuit accelerate because he showed he could sit down without getting injured?

If a contender like Spurs can get that kinda production off the bench in the playoffs, then it is well worth it.
I just don't see that happening though.

Im saying he should be able to, its only an assumption. Like I said he should be able to play that many games with limited minutes if he has limited minutes and plays the the first or second of a back to back and doesnt play the other game

Fools Gold. If he were serious about his game, he would have played in the Summer league.

I thought you couldnt play in the summer league if you have been in the nba 3 or more years??.....

When healthy, he was barely an NBA player with upside. after all this time on the injured list, there is no more upside and what is left is a barely an NBA player. I don't understand media or teams fascination for this guy. Delonte West has more upside then him. Just ask Gloria.

Its beyond belief that any team would want to flush money down a toilet ... 3 Micro fx surgeries of the knee ??? I can guarantee He will not play a single game within the life of any contract that's given to him ... in 5 years He has played squat , what makes people believe all of a sudden he is healed

July 23, 2013  12:17 PM ET

Think about it people--if Greg Oden had anything to offer, he wouldn't be available.

July 23, 2013  12:55 PM ET

If Bynum got 24 million for the stunt he pulled last year by not playing and getting injured bowling, I guess you can dust off Oden and give him a Max contract too. I wonder where Michael Olawakandi is, he needs to chose from the Mavs and Spurs...

My feeling is that if I'm G.O. I'm looking at the HEAT. They've been the team with the most in star power and the least in supporting cast. They've been to the FINALS the last 3 years with 2 victories, and yes it might be nice playing with Tim Duncan, but playing with LeBron James would be even better. With the HEAT he would have the benefit of playing with younger players and less pressure. But the fact remains that I'm not G.O. & the final decision will be his. Just would like to see him come along well enough to have a nice career, win a couple of Championships along the way.
