Jackson on Seattle: 'Do my job, collect my check'

06:59 AM ET 07.24 | To some degree, Tarvaris Jackson has a new lease on the NFL. Forgive Jackson if he doesn't sound quite as competitive as he used to be. The last two years have been frustrating, downright mystifying at times, for a player who feels he has shown he has what it takes to be an NFL starting quarterback. "I found out the hard way, it's a business," he said. "It had always been football first for me, but now it's kind of shown me the business part of the NFL. That's what I signed up for, so I can't really complain. I just have to do my job, collect my check and keep this going the best I can." Jackson had spent his career with the Minnesota Vikings after being drafted in the second round of the 2006 draft, but was acquired by the Seattle Seahawks two years ago this week.

The NFL IS a business, but it's also all about winning. If Tavaris Jackson could help some team win, they would have him starting.

He's lucky he has a job and is getting a check.

He sounds like a guy who had his big opportunity snatched away by a rookie...

More like Russell Wilson shoved him and Flynn aside and took the job...

That said - TJ has the right attitude right now. Prepare every day.

His big opportunity was in Minnesota. It was snatched away by Christian Ponder and the Ancient Tractor-driver. Not exactly high qualifications for a starter.

But, the world needs clipboard holders. It might as well be him.

He's going to make $1.25mm for holding a clipboard this year. Not a bad gig if you can get it.

Damn... Then I believe that makes twice, that a rook took his job.

Nah, not last year. Matt Flynn was the presumptive starter in Seattle last year. TJack was, well, the clipboard holder. Wilson leapfrogged them both.

He has already out lasted his abilities to perform.

To go from being the third string QB for the Bills to the back up on a winning team is one of the great Horatio Alger stories in NFL lore.

Tavarious my man, your job IS to collect a check. Nothing more. If it were to become any more than that you would be soon replaced.

July 24, 2013  10:53 AM ET

His job became more a few years ago in Seattle. It was horrible to watch. He never threw the ball away, taking huge losses instead. We had way too many 4th & a Mile situations. It wasn't totally his fault, but he made a bad situation a whole lot worse. It was the first time since the first Seahawks game in 1977 that I didn't watch the entire season. It just got too depressing. I wasn't at all happy to hear he was back in town.

The story is about Tarvaris Jackson, but is accompanied by a photo of Russell Wilson. That must hurt.

Jackson was the starter in Seattle when Ponder was drafted by Minny Minny
