07:01 AM ET 07.24 | Of all coaches, Browns offensive coordinator Norv Turner certainly has earned the right to judge. [Turner] has coached some of the best running backs in the history of the game, including the NFL's all-time leading rusher Emmitt Smith and former MVP LaDainian Tomlinson, and Turner thinks Trent Richardson stacks up. "Just watching him and seeing him against us when I came here in October and then watching the tape, yeah, he's that type of runner," said Turner. "Obviously he's the third pick in the draft. I think he has a lot of great days ahead of him. I always have a problem comparing players because each guy has his own unique style, but I think he's capable of doing great things." Turner, who's produced the NFL's rushing champion on five occasions, thinks Richardson will carry the ball 300 times.

Norv?? LOL. Emmitt Smith is arguably the best RB of all-time (Jim Brown, Walter Payton, Barry Sanders, Eric Dickerson), Richardson isn't even near the best today even. I can name at least 5 backs way better today. He's not even close to AP, Foster, Rice, Gore, Lynch, or Drew today.

Someone please give Norv an alzheimer's test.

I followed him in Bama... If he had Emmitt's offensive line he would be BETTER.

I can tell you are a Redskins fan with that comment. LOL

it seems to be a bit early in his career to start making those comparisons...

Same here and I agree. Unfortunately, he has Cleveland's O line, so he's going to take a beating. He may wind up more like Earl Campbell.

Yeah, never really much cared for Emmit...... Or Irvin...... Or Aikman. I respect them though.

True. Now that they're penalizing RB's for leading with their helmet, he's going to have to change his style a bit. Really not a good situation in Cleveland for him.

Yeah. 300 carries a season behind that O-line could lead to a short career.

267 rushes last year with only 2 runs longer than 20 yds.

Cleveland Bishop..... A 28 year old rookie QB starting with no clue.

They both went to the same high school in Pensacola. That's where the comparisons end. TR has 950 yards rushing in the NFL...Emmitt Smith has 18,355.

Somebody get Norv a smelling salt.

Well..those Redskins fans do have more to be excited about than people here in Dallas O!!

300 carries may have him being carted off, players like Emmitt could take punishment, that is one of the things that made Emmitt special. Emmitt gets dissed a lot because he had a great O.Line for part of his career but he still was a punishing runner and took every defender head on for most of his career. Emmitt actually didn't have a great O.Line in 1998-2001 and still got over 1200 yards in every one of those seasons. Noticed I said 1200 because getting 1000 should be easy for any decent RB.

What Norv doesn't remind the writer is that Aikman and Rivers had passing options. Great options that made you have to defend the pass too. Until or unless Weeden or McCoy can give the Browns that, Richardson is just a very entertaining punching bag for defenses.
