07:16 AM ET 07.24 | These days, the White Sox are a popular team among MLB scouts, particularly because of Jake Peavy and Jesse Crain. The Red Sox, Braves, Dodgers, Reds and Diamondbacks -- all exploring relief help -- are expected to have scouts at U.S. Cellular Field throughout the weekend to watch Peavy and now Crain, who said his shoulder felt fine during a 33-pitch bullpen session. The Sox are listening to proposals. They turned down a deal involving pitcher Carlos Martinez, the Cardinals third-highest rated prospect, for shortstop Alexei Ramirez, according to a scouting source. ... [The Cardinals] are examining their starting pitching options, and those include Peavy. Moreover, the Red Sox and Diamondbacks are expected to have two scouts at Thursday's game to watch Peavy.

There has to be more to this deal. No way the Cardinals offered Martinez straight up for Ramirez, and no way in hell would the White Sox reject that deal.

To me it sounds like a fair trade. A top prospect for a proven MLB shortstop. The White Sox are probably hoping for a better deal if Peralta does get suspended. Detroit will probably be desperate. Pitching is at a premium, but so are shortstops.

A lot to give up for a 32 year old ss. The only difference between Ramirez and Kozma is his batting average. Lets not forget Cardinal management we won with light hitting Maxvill at ss and we can win with Kozma also and keep your pitching prospects for the future.

Yes, if that truly was the deal offered the White Sox were foolish to turn it down.

the Whitesox are standing pat they may have a shot at div title. yeah!! They know they have some individual talent. thre whitesox is waiting to see if Detroit has to find a replacement SS. I don't see what cards problem is with Kozma he seems to play well defensively with good range and an accurate arm and seems to come up with some clutch hits. certainly not worth giving up top talent for. Detroit is still looking for a closer also.

I don't know why this is such a big deal when there's a NEW ROYAL BABY to fawn over!!!!

Kozma does not have the glove of Ozzie Smith or Dal Maxville. Kozma is batting .211 for the month of July. Prospects are just prospects until they've done it in the majors. There are very few who are can't miss prospects and even some of those do miss. It's a crap shoot until they mature. Who expected Alan Craig and Matt Carpenter to become All-stars? Who expected Colby Rasmus to become an All-star?

I want a championship this year. This is a really good team with a legitimate shot to do it. Thirty to thirty-five points on the batting average translates to a lot of runs in lineup like the Cardinals have this year. Improve the team all you can as long for the stretch run as long as you aren't completely emptying the farm system to do it. Ask Texas about missed chances for a championship.

this story is void of the headline, what is the deal the Sox turned down?

Peavy would work well with the Cardinals, he has their grit.

The w/s can do whatever they wanted, after all its their team isn't?

Matt Kemp has gave up his own opinion regarding Braun PEDs suspension,
In my own opinion the league should remove the MVP award and tossed it away :-) :-)

Unfortunately it's this current team.

Why stop there? Braun should be drawn and quartered in Times Square. Afterwards, there should be a live performance of "Gangnam Style."

Surprised with the Cards offering so much . White Sox have had a history of overvaluing there own players much more than what they are really worth . In order for the White Sox to make a deal they have to be overwhelmed . Just like a few years back with Burehle , Jermaine Dye and now with Ramirez , Rios and Peavy ... My guess is they will not trade any of them despite no chance of making the playoffs.
