Holgorsen's message for Saban, Bielema: Get over it

07:20 AM ET 07.24 | One of the more interesting matchups of the early season presents a number of interesting contrasts. If only we could fast-forward to the 2014 season opener, when West Virginia meets Alabama in Atlanta. Or more precisely, when spread-offense savant Dana Holgorsen meets defensive mastermind Nick Saban in the pregame news conference. Saban is among the coaches questioning whether no-huddle attacks increase injury risk, and whether college football's overseers want the sport to "become a continuous game." Arkansas coach Bret Bielema last week was even more outspoken about the advantages afforded uptempo offenses. Holgorsen's response? "I'd tell 'em to get over it, because it's not going to change. It's going into the NFL, for crying out loud," Holgorsen said.

And the media continues to stir, stir, stir.

...and the hurry up is not new. They've been running the hurry up, no huddle offense at the ends of halves as long as I can remember.

And me thinks there are more injuries when a team pounds the ball down the defenses throat with a 3-4 yard per play, 18 play drive. Physical pummeling.

What we need is some actual data analysis to consider this issue.
DC, looks like it's just you and me, and I have to go back to work. See you at lunchtime.

So he's a spread offense "savant"?

98% of sports hacks can't pronounce savant, 99% can't spell savant, and 99.99% don't know what savant means.

So, when was the last time the spread/hurryup/fun-and-gun offense won a championship (pro or D-IA college)? The usual problem is that it relies upon a specific set of skilled players, primarily a QB (Vick I and II, Pat White, RGIII). If said player goes down, there usually isn't a backup capable of running the offense, and the team goes into the tank.

I am sure what Dana Holgorsen thinks is what keeps Saban up at night what . I mean with Holgorsen's record and all those championships to his name who would not be hanging on his every word?

Let's see. That would be 2010. And yes, it took a specific set of skilled players named Newton, Dyer, McCaleb and a very veteran O-line.

Nick Saban trying to get an advantage for that game. Geez, Louise, Saban ya gotta play somebody. With one of the easiest schedules in the SEC, he has the gonads to cry about someones offense. Guess he just wants to play Georgia Southern every game them walk around like a broad breasted turkey and boast as to how great he and his Alabama team are.

Saban would wet his skirt if he had to play a tough SEC schedule. One day the SEC Commissioner will correct the error in the scheduling and make Alabama play the likes of Georgia, Florida or South Carolina during the regular season.

Alabama rarely plays Georgia or Florida during the regular season. By contrast, both Auburn and LSU play both teams in the majority of their regular seasons since year 2000. Where did the Commissioner come up with LSU/Fla being a rivalry game. Since time it has always been LSU/Ole Miss. Then he comes up with Alabama/Tennessee as a rivalry. C'mon, Commissioner, time to make Alabama EARN IT if they CAN.

Saban and others that don't like the HUNH don't want to adapt to the change, so instead of adjusting they want a rule change to stop it!!! STIR, STIR, STIR!!!!!!! :-)

Why? Are they going to use it to go back to everyone running the wishbone and forward passes are illegal. Its football. Chess on a field. Its about matchups and adjustments. Its about competing philosophies and putting them on the field. They are better off focusing on concussions.

Damn!!! This is the "comment of the day"!!! Good job!!!
