07:22 AM ET 07.24 | With countryman Jaromir Jagr having signed in New Jersey, Patrik Elias has been flooded with calls and texts over the past few days about potentially becoming teammates with the Czech star. Elias, the Devils' all-time leading scorer, has been teammates with Jagr on various Czech national teams, but is looking forward to being teammates with him in the NHL for at least one season. ... "For me, it's kind of surreal," Elias said. "I don't think I ever thought about playing with him on the same team, but we're at the point in our careers, both of us, that we know our roles, we know our situation, we know our place and I think he will be good for the team." Elias, 37, re-signed to remain a Devil for three more seasons earlier this month. Jagr, 41, may be entering the final season of a storied NHL career.

Yep! Surreal is right! It's not very often you get to play with, not one, but two octogenarians at the same time.

Jagr is lucky to be playing with Elias.

He's lucky to be playing with anybody.

It's no surprise he got a shot with someone. He had 16 goals and 19 assists in 45 regular season games last year, and led Dallas in goals playing in only 34 games. Yeah he's old but that's still better than most NHL players.

Real youth movement building in NJ. Brodeur, Jagr, Elias,...

I heard they've contacted Gordie Howe's agent.

You're actually leading Detroit Nardo as your average age is higher. Well done.

Wouldn't that be his wife who has been known to reach through phone lines when angry?

Colleen (Mrs. Hockey) died about 4 or 5 years ago and I agree she was a pistol.

I remember when she passed away. I thought Gordie was still in pretty good health today. What is he....about 83 or 84 years old by now? I actually did see him play when the Caps were new in town.

Just looked it up. 85 this past March. Almost mature enough to join the Devils.

Lou needs to call MacT ASAP. Hemsky can be had for cheap. It'll only take Schneider to pry the sleek forward from the Oilers. Then NJ can boast an entire Czeching 1st line: Patrik Elias, Jaromir Jagr and Alice Hemsky!

My Dad took me to Olympia to see Gordie when I was in middle school, that game he tied the Rockets record for most goals scored. We stood for over 5 minutes the news said, clapping.
