07:07 AM ET 07.25 | The end of an era? LeBron James' days of playing for Team USA have likely ended. James, 28, will not play for USA Basketball during the 2014 world championships in Spain and is doubtful to participate in the 2016 Olympics in Brazil, a source close to the Miami Heat forward told Yahoo! Sports on Wednesday. USA Basketball executive director Jerry Colangelo also confirmed to Yahoo! Sports he doesn't expect James to play next summer -- and doesn't plan to ask him. ... "LeBron is going to be three years older during the next Olympics. He will have two older boys. He has a lot to endure with his family," the source told Y! Sports. "He played in three Olympics. Everyone that knows LeBron knows it's always based on a decision at that moment. But if the moment was today, the answer would be no."

Too bad for Team USA but if I were a team owner I'd be happy that my super star player was keeping out of [unnecessary] harm's way.

I'm sure LBJ would like to help and be part of a U.S. victory, so his well wishes for our country's success will suffice...

LBJ's "decision" to not play for Team USA will trickle down to the rest of the superstars. I bet any amount of money that CP3, D-Wade, Melo, and Howard will never play again.

His decision is base on the now which means that there is a great chance he'll play for the Olympics in 3 years. If he follows through then more power for him. Remember that he also said he was going to be in the slam dunk contest but changed his mind.

If anyone actually believed he was going to participate, they're crazy. He knows like everyone else that he's not creative enough to be in the dunk contest.

Lol... for me less of Lebron on TV is good anyway.... I wish him well as a person and player at the same time he's not the type I want to see play.

He sure made people believe but like you said he is not creative enough or else he would have joined since his rookie year.

You don't wish him well as a person or a player stop lying. You bash him every chance you get even when he's not the topic

You Can Thank Kobe For The Gold, Bro.

3 is enough. If Paul George and Durant play, America is in good hands.

Yup. Team USA will be fine with Durant, Love, Harden and the other young guys. They just need to make sure they have a couple snipers on the squad and USA will be all good.

Howard can't handle the bright lights of Rio.

Howard would love Rio, AJ. He can impregnate some more beautiful women and return to the USA. No international child support laws. He can be the international Karl Malone.

going 4 rounds deep in the playoffs every year will take a toll on the body. Nobody should be disappointed that the guy will opt to forego a mid-summer tournament. Perhaps at that point the drive to compete will lead him to play...but I he has definitely played his part for USA basketball and certainly doesn't owe the program anything.

Exactly.
James had done it more than once.
So let the young guys do it.
Westbrook,George,Durant,Cousins,DeAndre Jordan,Lillard,Kyrie,Wall,Derozen,Klay,Drumond...
What a team indeed.
And there are still more included.
Rondo must be a cancer, nobody wants him on that team lmao!

Agree completely, Eli...

He has nothing left to prove by going for the gold another time. Lebron needs to stay focused on his NBA career and let the young guns worry about the olympics. Lebron paid his dues in the olympics and represented the usa to a gold
