Rangers eyeing Rios, OF market taking shape

07:09 AM ET 07.25 | Texas, which sent newly acquired Matt Garza to the mound Wednesday, may not be done dealing. The Rangers are weighing Alex Rios as a trade possibility, among several other options, sources said. Texas has been looking for a right-handed hitter, most likely a right fielder, and in a thin market Rios would appear to be at or near the top of it. Texas, and several other teams recently have scouted Rios (the Pirates are one, and Danny Knobler of CBSSports.com identified the Royals). ... Ideally, Texas would have loved to make a run at young Marlins superstar Giancarlo Stanton, Hunter Pence (a local, being a U-T Arlington product) or perhaps Michael Cuddyer, but with those three apparently unavailable at the moment, the Rangers are surveying a market that's heavy on far lesser talents.

They seriously need a bat but not giving up good talent for less than top level talent to get it. They never did fill the gap of losing 70 hr's from last years team. Berkman was NOT anything close to the answer.

I cannot see non-hustling Rios on the Rangers team as long as Ryan still has so say over personnel. Jeff Francoeur would be the cheapest way out for the Rangers to add a right handed hitting outfielder.

I thought they already had a poor-fielding OF in Nelson Cruz - are they trying to corner the market?

They tried him a few years ago. Apparently it was not memorable since I can't tell you what he actually did here.

He actually batted .340 in 15 games for TX.

They have the money and the prospects, it will take a lot of both!

Texas just needs to improve their starting pitching and pray that Cruz isn't suspended before the season ends.

Rangers have enough offense if the pitching gets healthy.

Really???? Case in point was the game today. They DON'T!!!

rangers would be better off with Rios and his sometimes lack of hustle. Ramierez has shown his history of only playing hard only when he wants to.

He plays the game. No lack of hustle in him.

Anyone who thinks the Rangers are generating enough runs isn't watching the games. Pitching, especially with the recent acquisition of Garza, is not the problem. With Colby Lewis and Matt Harrison returning soon, there will actually be an over-abundance of quality starters and the bullpen has been stellar all season.

Nope, it's the anemic bats that are plaguing Texas. While they have a good team average, it's hitting with RISP that are hurting them. They are failing miserably in that situation.

Maybe they should think of two outfielders to trade for as Cruz will probably be suspended then they will be covered in case crap hits the fan
