Kentucky sending recruit letters to fans, too

07:16 AM ET 07.25 | Credit Mark Stoops for thinking outside the box, but inside the mailbox. [Some of Kentucky's] most prized football recruits won't ever suit up for the Wildcats. [Stoops], however, wants a stronger 12th Man at Commonwealth Stadium heading into his first season as head coach. UK's athletic department is in the process of recruiting fans the same way Stoops has feverishly lured players to the Wildcats' 2014 class, currently ranked No. 4 at Rivals.com, by signing and mailing letters to season ticketholders who haven't yet renewed as well as young alumni. UK officials got word Tuesday that the first of the 10,000 cards sent -- each labeled with five signatures -- had arrived. "They basically targeted 5,000 people, and those 5,000 people got one, five, 10, 20 or a few got even 50 cards."

Why don't they just use Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and plain old fashioned texting?

I applaud their support of the US Postal Service in the Service's time of need. Unfortunately, of the 50 cards sent, only 22 will actually make it to their correct destination.

The old geezers with all the big bucks don't have that stuff. Heck, probably the best way to reach that demographic is to put a big ad in the newspaper.

I meet the first criteria you referenced. Unfortunately, that "big bucks" part doesn't accurately describe me!

Are you saying that catalog was/is a dual-purpose outhouse accessory -- entertainment AND clean-up?

Am I the only one who was amazed to find out that Kentucky actually had 5,000 season ticket holders?
