Can Leafs keep Kessel?

07:25 AM ET 07.25 | Veteran winger Phil Kessel, often as polarizing as he has been productive, led the Leafs in scoring this past season with 52 points in 48 games -- and he was a plus-3 with a team-leading four goals in seven playoff games. Kessel is entering the final year of his five-year contract signed with the Leafs in 2008, but his future status with the club is not on his mind as he [approaches] unrestricted free agency next summer. "I haven't even thought about it yet," he told reporters on Wednesday. "I've still got another year here and we'll see what happens." Many have speculated that the club's decision to keep centre Tyler Bozak could be a factor in re-signing Kessel, as the two have had good chemistry on and off the ice. Maple Leafs general manager Dave Nonis locked up Bozak to a five-year deal [July 5].

Why not? They got rid of Seguin, didn't they?

We've seen Miss Pinch can't carry this team. ;-)

Kessel will resign. No worries Leaf Nation

it's always disappointing to hear something like that. The team made a big gamble to acquire him and then paid him handsomely. I think that they will certainly make a strong push to get him. At the very least it'd be good of him to say that he wants to be a leaf...

Ladies and gentlemen, puttin on the limes...

Just semantics. He will get his deal... probably 5 years, 37 million or so.

It's starting to make sense now BF. The mods have been erratically removing comments with knee-jerk reactions. It's obvious they're Leaf fans.

They better sign him, this may be the last straw for Danny. Besides, what we he do with his Kessel jersey if he left for FA?

Kessel has all the talent in the world. Like the sisters i would like to see him smash a stick or spit out a tooth once in a while. Drop a few f bombs...show me a pulse.
