Berkman considering walking away

07:07 AM ET 07.26 | With a outfield that might be further compromised if Nelson Cruz is suspended, the Rangers may also have an issue at DH if Lance Berkman's knee and hip keep him from the lineup. Berkman acknowledged Wednesday that he has considered the possibility of either retiring or walking away from the remainder of the season if he doesn't soon see progress. Berkman is on the disabled list with hip inflammation, but his longer-term issue has been an inability to fully extend his surgically-repaired knee. Berkman was eligible to come off the DL on Monday, but only started running Wednesday. If the knee shows any progress, he will likely have to do a rehab assignment. "I've definitely thought about it," Berkman said of shutting down for the remainder of the season.

Best not to push it.

It's time. I don't think he has enough left in him to push him into the HOF. I was really hoping he'd make it, but I don't think he has the numbers.

What's with all the hip injuries in recent times? For the life of me I don't ever remember hearing about any hip injuries years ago.

By the way, I like Berkie and I hope he bounces back for another season or two if possible but only if he's satisfied with what he's doing.

Berkman has had a decent career. He should go ahead and retire while he can still walk. Berkman has had several knee surgeries and now the hip. Hanging on and having sub par seasons for berkman does not help his chance at popssible HOF.

I blame Obamacare.

Berkman has had a decent career with a career batting average of .291 1900+ change in hits 1234 RBIs and a career.992 fielding percentage. Berkman should retire now while he can still walk. he has had several knee surgeries and now his hip. He is 37 and has nothing to prove to anyone.

Probably because the hip joint is close proximity to a popular steroid injection site and is the one that deteriorates first.. AFraud seems to have hip issues.. just sayin' it is an interesting coincidence...

More runing during training? More heavy squats and leg lifts during training? Those joints only have so many miles and so many impacts in them.

The man is a gamer..... and I hope it's not something "permanent".... He did great for the Cards and was glad to see him somewhat revive his career there. But sometimes, the body - just says no.
