10:15 AM ET 07.27 | After three months of being questioned about a much-hyped quarterback competition that hadn't even started yet, Mark Sanchez and Geno Smith finally got on the field Friday for the first practice of Jets training camp and got to provide some answers - positive ones, apparently. Sanchez worked with the first team as expected, saying he isn't even considering the possibility of losing the job but is confident enough to help Smith at every turn, because it's the right thing to do. Smith went turnover-free, stayed on the field working long after practice had ended, and left coaches and teammates impressed. Sanchez completed eight of 11 passes and was sacked twice during the team portion of practice, the incumbent not seeming at all worried about the presence of his rookie competition. "I don't know. I don't even think like that. I don't think about not winning the job. That's just the way I am, I'm pretty optimistic," said Sanchez, who has been helping Smith. "It's the right thing to do. You've got to be a pro, no matter what you're doing. ... That's the way I learned. I guess that's the way I was brought up in this league. It's the right thing to do. Maybe not everybody does it, but that's me."

Mark does not realize he is not on the "hot seat," he is in the bowl as we speak and unless vandals have stole the handle he is about to be flushed.

Wow! The relentless, mean sprited NY press almost have me rooting for Sanchez. And I hate the Jets! Almost hoping that the sooner Sanchez leaves the Jets, the sooner he can start on a Jim Plunkett-like rehabilitation of his career.

Jim Plunkett wasn't posing for GQ and acting like an a** at social gatherings when he should've been honing his craft, either.

He better learn to like it. He's going to be one by about week 4.
