10:51 AM ET 07.28 | Rangers RHP Tanner Scheppers was not available in Friday's extra-inning loss to Cleveland because he was dealing with the effects of being attacked Thursday night by "several young males" on a street two blocks from the team hotel. Scheppers said he was out getting food shortly after the team arrived when he was attacked and "sucker-punched," but not robbed. He did not recall the time, but did contact the police. A report was not filed after Scheppers said police told him it was unlikely that anybody would be apprehended. "They said it happens a lot, actually," said Scheppers, who had a blackened left eye and two small cuts above his nose. "I'm just lucky nothing serious really happened. I'm good to pitch for [Saturday]. I was in the wrong place at the wrong time. I went down like a sack of potatoes." Scheppers had a headache after the attack and also was a bit shaken. Rangers officials said the team notified MLB security officials.

Now do you see why we need more Zimmerman's?

"I was in the wrong place at the wrong time". Yeah, in Cleveland

How about Schepper's civil rights holder!

Knock out game. We've had people killed by it in St. Louis. I'm beginning to think a bit of Daley night stick therapy is in order for these kids. They might stop attacking people for fun if they are bleeding a few times when the game is over.

Why would the guy go out and walk the streets alone?

July 28, 2013  04:40 PM ET

So the police say it happens often, but just pass it off with no report. I guess it would lead to less people on the streets and less work for the police... Another American city goes to the dump...

about the time a player pulls a gun to defend himself and killed some one, I guarantee the cops would file a report while they are hauling your butt to jail.

It looks like this story is BS. Sounds like he got in a bar fight and lost.

Idiot - I was wondering who picks the 6' 4" guy out of the crowd for a random attack.
