Michigan makes another national statement

07:25 AM ET 07.29 | Brady Hoke says he's not close to retirement, which is good news in Ann Arbor considering he's pretty good at this recruiting thing. Occasionally, a landmark college football commitment changes a program's national perception. Just this year, Michigan has landed three of those. It began with Virginia tailback Derrick Green in January, Rivals.com's No. 1-ranked running back, already enrolled for this fall. Then New Jersey cornerback Jabrill Peppers, Rivals' No. 2-ranked player in the 2014 class. And now Florida receiver George Campbell, ESPN.com's No. 3 overall player, who committed Saturday for the 2015 class. The Wolverines are making an impact with the nation's best players -- all outside the Midwest.

Just make sure it translates to the field.

He just got there, why should he be close to retirement, or do they just over pay them that much in the B10 at all the schools. You know, 100 times what they are worth.

Once he gets Michigan on track, his plan is to try and land an SEC job.

LOL, I bet there is at least one school in the SEC, that has a football coach that is "over paid", oh hell, maybe there are two or three SEC football coaches that are over paid!!! :-)

Current SEC Coaches with ties to B1G: Nick Saban, Les Miles, Bret Bielma, Kevin Sumlin. One more won't hurt.

Maybe Dan Tonio will get a look see if he has another 7-6 breakout season.

Because 7-6 is a lot different from "Michighan is Back" 8-5 season? You also might want to look up a person's name before posting. Or was that an attempt at humor?

Attempt to put this thread back on track: How come Michigan is getting a highly rated kid from the heart of SEC/ACC country? The Virginial guys I sort of get, what with the B1G expanding East. But this kid is from Florida.

Everyone recruits from the southeast, Spahtee. We just know how to rear football playuhs down heeyuh. While y'all midwestern yankees distribute yoah younguns between hockey, lacrosse, and whatevuh, southerners teach our young men to play football. Shoot! Given yoah fine Big Ten-and-then-some educations, y'all shoulda figured this out for yoah own selves by now.

LOL, I will say again that, some good recruits don't want to play for the Gators, because they want to leave the state for an OOC game!!!

We need LUS to weigh in on this kid's recruitment.

Usually there's a reason something like this happens, like family ties to a school, or a program runs a very similar offense to the one they played in HS, or an overstuffed brown bag shows up on a doorstep -- you know, the usual things that attract a player.

It's called being relevant.

Look that up in the dictionary....there is no mention of MSU!

So you are hinting that LUS may be able to flip this kid with a bag of cash?

July 29, 2013  10:19 AM ET

Cause these kids realize Hoke= Respectful Dantonio=Trustworthy. Saban=Gone as soon as more $ is offered. Miles= nuts. When football is done b1g= success Sec = Paper or plastic.

Well, to answer your question directly, no. LUS lives in S FL, though, and keeps close tabs on recruiting/recruits, so I figured he'd know the details of this kid's recruiting process. WTFJJ may also have some skinny on it as he is a recruitnik as well.

But a wad of cash from ANYwhere has the potential to flip many kids, not saying it did or would for this one in particular. I was mainly just needling the Michiganders with that part of it.

July 29, 2013  10:26 AM ET

As a die hard lifelong Michigan fan and current Michigan student, these big time recruits are perplexing me. With the exception of Peppers who claims he has been a lifelong Michigan fan as well, why would these players come to a school that went 8-5 last season and whose winter is 6 of the 8 months they are on campus. If I were a big name recruit, I would look at Alabama and nowhere else.
