07:30 AM ET 07.29 | Detroit finds itself this offseason a little heavy on roster spots and in salary. [The Red Wings] have had discussions with the Nashville Predators about sending forward Jordin Tootoo back to the organization that drafted and developed him, according to a source. The Red Wings will have two extra forwards and will be slightly over the $64.3 million salary cap once they sign restricted free agents Gustav Nyquist and Joakim Andersson. They have been trying to swing a trade for more than a month to alleviate their roster and cap crunch. Tootoo, with two years at $1.9 million per season remaining on his contract, appears to be their most viable trade candidate. Nashville, a team that typically doesn't spend up to the cap, has $4.6 million in cap space, according to capgeek.com.

The only Q is, what draft picks will DET send to NSH to take the cap issue off their hands?

Detroit has quite a number of quiet places that a lot of killings take place. Maybe they could use one to kill the cap.

They aren't going to kill the cap though, because the owners and GMs throw out money like drunken baseball owners and GMs. I mean look at what Louongo is making with a cap. Without the cap any second rate goal tender would get that much. Ummmmm. Yeah, anyway, the won't kill the cap.

Not only was he a player I never liked, my team not only signed him, but signed him to a 3-year deal, hardly used him and now have to offload him somehow. People said we'd like his game, his grit, but I just was never Inuit.

I second the motion. Tootoo reminds me of one of those high school lab science experiments gone wrong. Ken Holland got singed!

Tootoo just doesn't look good in the Winged wheel. I won't miss him at all.
