Philadelphia sitting on $13M in cap space

07:15 AM ET 07.29 | The Nets, they are not. As the list of available, quality free agents dwindles, so too are the number of teams with spending power. ... The Philadelphia 76ers are sitting on a ton of space, with no head coach and seemingly no desire to chase free agents. The Sixers have up to $16 million in space and are $13.2 million under the league minimum salary of $52.8 million. Once draft picks Nerlens Noel (6th) and Michael Carter-Williams (11th) sign their deals, Philadelphia will still stand about $7.8 million under the floor -- suggesting they may be open to taking on other team's salary dumps (in return for draft considerations). The Milwaukee Bucks just spent on Gary Neal and Miroslav Raduljica. The numbers haven't come in yet, but the Bucks could have about $8.3 million in space.

Maybe they could use some of that and hire a coach.

Why would anyone want to go to the Sixers when their leadership cant even find them a coach...smh

I heard of building from the top down but from the bottom up doesnt sound like a solid plan.

Oden and his fragile knees are available.

July 29, 2013  08:33 AM ET

What is this? The most cap space contest?

There is only one Wiggins to go around, I'm not sure why THAT many teams are planning a "tank" season.

Not really available. According to FN every NBA team is shooting for him. I'm still wondering why but if it's on FN, it's gotta be true...

I'm also from Melmac and I would never lie on FN

With two 1st rounders in this upcoming draft if both end up in the top 10 this team can really turn things around in the future and then shed Thaddeus Youngs contract as well and become a decent contender. I doubt it works out that way though.

Coaches salaries don't apply towards the salary cap.

they should probably have done a better job in getting a coach sooner than later...but this team no matter what is gonna be rebuilding the next 2-3 years...

Love the chance they will have at 2 nice players in next years draft...Don't go spending the $$ just because you have it (Chris Webber, Elton Brand) spend it wisely and make sure you spend it on what your team needs and not on players who used to be able to do what your team needs!

Sixers will eventually have to spend the money as you can't be too far under the cap because that is no no as well. Just work on making Carter-Williams a better PG. As long as we get two in top ten for next years draft I am ok. A wing and a PF or a SG and a SF. I happen to think that the best prospects will be the freshmen class

This is the equivalent of going to Macy's to look for a car. You win with players. Cap space is worthless if there's nothing to buy.

Cuban found out the hard way how valuable cap space is when building a team.

The question is "decent contender" for what? Surely not to win a ring. Surely not to make the playoffs with 2 rookies?
Draft picks are great, but without a team philosophy, without a structure, without leadership (both coaching and players) any number of high drafts is useless.

This team is now built to be the laughing stock for a LONG time.
