07:09 AM ET 07.30 | While perhaps not to the degree Boston has, Philadelphia appears to be aimed at going young in its coaching search. Portland Trail Blazers assistant coach David Vanterpool interviewed for the [76ers'] head coaching opening on Monday and has emerged as a serious candidate for the job, league sources told Yahoo! Sports. Philadelphia general manager Sam Hinkie has moved deliberately on the search, interviewing multiple candidates, but Vanterpool has risen into legitimate consideration, league sources said. San Antonio Spurs assistant coach Brett Brown and Boston Celtics assistant Jay Larranaga are among the coaches who have made strong impressions in the process, sources said. Michael Curry, who remains from Doug Collins' coaching staff, is the strongest internal consideration.

Curry sucks! You already know what he can do. He didn't do much in Detroit. But I guess if the idea is to get the #1 pick then Curry would do...

Exactly. They're not looking for the next Phil Jackson or Red Auerbach. Simply a guy willing to go down with the ship.

Doesn't matter whom coaches this season, they're in full tank mode right now. Maybe they should hire Isaiah Thomas and keep him away from running for any NBA front office jobs. That'll ensure they get the worst record in the NBA this season.

Rumor I hear is Next Town Larry Brown is available.

The Media in Philly is making WAY more a big deal then this really is. The Sixers are in full rebuild mode as this season is a total wash, so it doesn't really matter who the coach is. The fate of the Sixers is tied to next season on how lucky or unlucky they get in the lottery with their pick, and how good or bad the Pelicans are this season as we get their #1 pick (top 5 protected). Next season will really be the first season you start to see the beginning of whether we are building a dynasty with alittle luck in the lottery, or whether we are just another Washington Wizards who are lottery bound every year with no hope in sight.

They got two 1st rounders this year so if they can land their own pick in the top 3 and their protected one from the Pelicans in picks 5-10 range they'll be in a great spot going forward to rebuild effectively with some real solid pieces.

Amen to that. It's about time they stopped trying to float around the 8 seed or the end of the lottery. And this is certainly the year to do it...2014 draft is loaded, and Philly could own two of the top 6 picks if the ping pong balls drop the right way. Add Carter-Williams and Noel to Young, Turner (I know, I'm the only one left on the Turner bandwagon) and future pickups X, Y and Z, and I'm feeling better.

Dear Josh Harris,

Thank you for hiring Sam Hinkie

We need talent developers here for the long haul. If we draft the Melo and Bosh of the draft or the Melo and Wade of the draft, or the LeBron, Bosh of the draft we are ok. So I am not too worried right now as this is a long term process. This has never done before and it may work out but we will see.

They gambled, they lost, they will be back. Great history and too much grit and balls in Philly to give up. plus they got the best team song and superfan.
