Kupchak: 'We don't know when Kobe's coming back'

07:10 AM ET 07.30 | Since Lakers GM Mitch Kupchak last spoke to reporters, the departures include Dwight Howard and Metta World Peace, and the roster influx has led to a whole lot of wondering about the future. With Kobe Bryant coming back at an unknown date from a torn Achilles' tendon, is it time to punt away next season and play for a high draft pick in 2014? "You know that's not our plan. Our plan was to bring back Dwight Howard and that would have sky-rocketed our payroll," Kupchak said. ... "We have challenges. There's no doubt. We don't know when Kobe's coming back, and we don't know what level he's going to come back at, although we're optimistic. Everything's good with Steve [Nash]. Pau [Gasol] should be fine. We've added some athleticism."

He'll be back sooner than expected

He needs to sit out the entire season and make sure he heals and rejuvenates to the core as Lakers won't be playing for something anyway. Then come back as free agent, take the money bag and run another stellar three or four year stint.... Big picture Kobe, big picture! You don't have to prove anything to anyone. Y're old now - be smart!

A week ago they were singing a different toon. Saying he would be back by start of season. I knew that was a hot lie.

He's busy in Italy

With Kobe you never know. He hates to sit, he could suit up for pre-season. Which I think would be totally stupid as Lostwill said, but Kobe's ego is bigger than the ocean. He'll want to prove than he's a super human.

He's already said that he'll be back before the season starts. He is out to prove something always.

I forgot this bold lettering only works in the comment and not quote sections so here it is, fixed again:

Hey Kobe, we need to get Bynum, and Odom back, and less make a run at that championship again next season.

QUOTE(#6):

Coming back and s one thing.......Has kupcake spoken to the coach about not playing him 40 minutes a night from day 1?

The Coach has no say in that matter..... Kobe will just sub himself in when he feels ready to come back on the court. The only coach able to control Kobe is Phil Jackson. Nothing will change over the course of his career. Kupchak needs to sit Kobe down and put his foot down in respecting authority figures in order to move forward with this..

That Pseudo - Sports Writer couldn't get printed in the local nursery school paper so he shouldn't be correcting "Jack".

Kobe is a 'cash cow' so I can see the Lakers reluctance to part ways with their 'Face of the franchise.' However going forward, L.A.'s best chance at becoming relevant is to get younger and field a team that will be attractive to free agents. Who wants to play with a running out of gas Kobe?
