07:12 AM ET 07.30 | Just in time for the stretch run, the beard may be back. Brian Wilson appears close to signing soon, and maybe a club that strikes out in the trade market will find satisfaction in the rare July free-agent market. Maybe that club will be the Pittsburgh Pirates or San Francisco Giants. Both were described by sources Monday as serious suitors for Wilson. ... Several clubs watched Wilson work out at UCLA last week, and the Diamondbacks and Dodgers have shown interest as well. One scout who has watched the three-time All-Star closer recently said Wilson is "getting close." One person close to Wilson said the pitcher "feels major-league ready." Wilson, 31, underwent Tommy John ligament transfer surgery in April, 2012. He last threw a major-league pitch on April 12, 2012.

The only way Wilson signs with the Bucs is for the minimum and incentives because of their low budget.

As I read this excerpt, I kept thinking about Kenny Powers when that scout from the Rays came calling for him.

But he could close immediately, and Grilli is the type that he wouldn't mind moving back to a set up role. Could be a perfect fit...

Grilli has been lights out, never bad to strengthen the pen though. I wouldn't put Wilson in the closer role right away, let him earn it.

or need to be moved there because of need. Melancon is doing great filling in for Grilli so far but if he falters or God forbid gets injured (touch wood) Wilson could step in to the closer role. He'd definately help strengthen an already good Pirates bullpen though.

Wilson should sign a 3 month deal with a contender and then put himself on the open market!!! maybe The Saux of Boston could use him?
