07:22 AM ET 07.30 | Forgive Francois Allaire for thinking things are looking a little familiar -- thanks in large part to the Avs new coach, Patrick Roy. Allaire also is back to coaching another goalie, Jean-Sebastien Giguere, whom he played a major role in developing into one of the NHL's best netminders. But can Allaire work the same magic for Avs No. 1 goalie Semyon Varlamov as he did Roy and Giguere? That, the 54-year-old goalie guru said, is his biggest immediate challenge. "I think Varly is looking for a fresh start," Allaire said. "I think he's open to trying something else." ... Despite never playing in the NHL, Allaire is widely credited with improving Roy when he served as a coach with Montreal (1984-96), and Giguere when he coached at Anaheim (1997-2009).

No veterinarian's in Denver?

I hope so. The kid has shown flashes of brilliance but has been troubled by nagging injuries and inconsistency. Agree about his glove hand. I like him and hope he can move on with a good career.

Is he going to give him the lacrosse equipment that Giguere passed off as goalie gear from back in his Anaheim days?

It'll be difficult coz Varlamov won't work for poutine.

I'm glad the flashes are brilliant. Mine seem to be from the 70s.

Ok.....one great Russian, and Bobrovsky. Tretiak was an amazing talent, and it would've been something to see him on an NHL team.

Besides him and a few others though, in general ya can't expect a Lada to become a Rolls-Royce, as its been proven again and again it doesn't work that way. Ovie is a guy to study, as well as Malkin. Neither though play goal...

See, but so many expectations of Roy.....the woman smacker. There better not be any **** in Colorado's dressing room.

Btw what was the name of the Russian goalie who allegedly played for Philly last year? Awesome interviewee! Absolutely brilliant! Haaaa! I'd like to see Allaire fix that head!

He almost got it right. He needs to take the catching glove before he tries it though.
