+1. How very lamentable and tragic. Polo was killed along with his brother and cousin. They weren't wearing seat belts. Two others survived.

I've been on that stretch of US 550 between Farmington and Bernalillo several times over the years. It's an undivided and lonely four-lane with a lot of sweeping curves right above Cuba where the accident occurred. They left from Salt Lake City and were heading for Ft. Worth. Polo tweeted hours before his death: "22 hour drive back to Texas on no sleep. Oh my."

Just horrible. I'm on record saying I hate aTm but my heart goes out to all affected.

If you take a look at the photos of the SUV they were riding in, the damage is not that great. Supposedly, at least two of them were ejected from the vehicle. If they had been wearing seat belts, they might all be alive. The speed limit on that road is 70 mph, and most cars drive considerably above that--no reason not to be wearing a belt.

Tragic! Hate to hear something like this. Thoughts and prayers for all those close to these young men.

Yes very tragic news. There is a large Polynesian community around Euless Trinity and there was lots of local news coverage last night. They said the group was returning from Utah where the cousin Vaenuku had earned a scholarship. They speculated that the group was bringing Vaenuku home as a surprise to his family.

Truly horrible. And the lack of seat belt use makes it immeasurably more tragic. If you don't make their use a priority for you and your loved ones, please do so.

On several Elk hunting trips we've found ourselves well over 90-100 mph on stretches of 64/87. It's hard not to get caught up in it because it's so wide open. On several occasions we've been startled by antelope dashing in front of the vehicle while doing 100+. You have to have nerves of steel if driving that fast. I don't like it I wasn't diving and it scared the crap out of me.

I hit a big doe just about an hour north of Amarillo about 2 years ago, thankfully I got my Highlander slowed down to maybe 55-60 at impact. Major-league mashed my front end, and I tell you what, trying to keep your machine on a 2-lane road after that impact, and after getting punched by your air bags being deployed was pretty dam tough.
