08:10 PM ET 07.30 | Earlier today the Texas Rangers pulled out of the running for Chicago White Sox outfielder Alex Rios. Now the Sox are close completing a deal with the Pittsburgh Pirates for the outfielder. Rios would be an upgrade for the Pirates whose right fielders have struggled at the plate. At 32 years old, Rios is batting .272 and has 12 homers, 49 RBIs and 22 stolen bases through 101 games this season. The non-waiver trade deadline is Wednesday, July 31. The Pirates are also pursuing Houston Astros pitcher Bud Norris.

Best record in baseball....maybe they should sit still.

I've never seen such a thing in all the years I've followed MLB.

They were buyers the past two years as well.

Technically speaking, sure. Derrek Lee and Ryan Ludwick in 2011 and Travis Snider and Gaby Sanchez in 2012 aren't really anything to write home about, though.

They also got Sandy R. last year and he was pitching pretty good before he went on the DL.

Too few of the top teams seem to do that anymore. Let the also-rans develope them, then buy them. I still say I want to see an A's/Pirates WS. Two teams doing it largely without a payroll. Go get'em!

I'm in for a A's/Pirates WS too!

I don't want them to buy anything and screw up the chemistry. I think that happened last year. Go with what you got. They're still long shots to win it all this year anyway. Aim for the postseason. Count on your young guys improving next year and don't sell the future for a slight bump in production this year.

Don't infect you team with this clubhouse cancer...

Yea, the Nationals thought this last year, how did that work?

enchanter24, I agree it has not worked for them (which is still kind of a mystery to me), but you are citing one specific example. We could go back and forth and I could site ones that "did" work. What would be the point?

Oops. "Cite."
