07:08 AM ET 07.31 | Welcome to the NFL, EJ Manuel. The elusive word is out there and Buffalo Bills general manager Doug Whaley searched as he spoke on Monday afternoon. He is talking about his rookie quarterback, [Manuel], and there is something he is looking for to describe the player he took in the first round of the draft. Something big. Something intangible. Something you can't describe in spiraling passes shooting down the field. It. "He has that it factor," Whaley said. ... On Monday, in his second training camp practice, he looked spectacular. His passes shot downfield like accurate lasers into the hands of speeding receivers. It was, of course, just a practice and one very early in camp but the glimpse gave an idea of just how fast this offense can be when he becomes the quarterback of the future.

Well, to be perfectly fair, Buffalo doesn't REALLY count as part of the NFL, does it?

July 31, 2013  07:36 AM ET

He was taken in the first round.... I can't remember him... May have been the first QB to go.

July 31, 2013  07:45 AM ET

The next Ryan Fitzpatrick?

July 31, 2013  07:55 AM ET

I hope they don't ruin this kid...

July 31, 2013  08:26 AM ET

Wait until he throws against someone other than overrated Bills defenders

July 31, 2013  08:35 AM ET

nothing surprising here.... it'll be fun watching them take the division title this season

This guy's the real deal. He'll be fine. Watched him in college and he's solid.

Rookie Manuel looks like a Day 1 starter

This is what happens with a lot of hard work kids. Or Manuel labour if you will.

Doug Marrone was a great hire. He not only played in the NFL, he was the OC down there in New Orleans. Payton got the credit, but it was Marrone who had to teach the offense day after day. Will take a little time, but their arrow is pointing up....

He's competing against Kevin Kolb, of course he's going to look great.

My early favorite for ROY. He fits the new mold for size and athleticism.

Nice. I hope the kid does well. Beating the Patriots will be victory enough.

And this is what happens when your competition is Kevin Kolb. A writer up here said he looked like dung-on-a-stick in camp.

If he's a starter, the Bills are in trouble.

July 31, 2013  10:37 AM ET

Huh? A positive story coming out of Buffalo? Are we sure this article wasn't written by a fan?

He has one of the slowest releases I've ever seen...
