Rodriguez' secret weapon in landing Brewer

07:21 AM ET 07.31 | Credit Rich Rodriguez for landing a touted in-state recruit -- by way of Texas. Rodriguez hoped to open a pipeline to Scottsdale Chaparral High School when he lured the school's title-winning head coach, Charlie Ragle, to join his rebuilding effort after the 2011 season. And now that pipeline is gushing. Quarterback Connor Brewer, who left Texas after one season, announced Monday night he would be transferring to Arizona, where he will join former high school teammate Davonte' Neal, a Notre Dame transfer receiver. Over the weekend, Arizona received a commitment from Chaparral tight end Trevor Wood, who picked the Cats over offers from Oregon, UCLA and Alabama. The Wildcats have five players from Chaparral on their roster: Neal, sophomore linebacker Cody Ippolito and a trio of walk-ons.

Nice pick up for Arizona, but how will he fit Rich Rod's system. Brewer isn't the best runner.

UTx is becoming a farm system for other colleges' QBs. Jevan Snead, G J Kinne, Connor Wood, Garrett Gilbert, Connor Brewer, et al. <slaps head>

Look at the bright side, at least you didn't have a future Heisman winner on your list of transferees.

That's what I thought. I didn't think this kid had ever been a "dual threat" spread type guy.

Jevan Snead should be slapping HIS head! He opted to forego his senior year at Ole Miss and enter the draft. He wasn't ready and he didn't impress the scouts at the different drills & events.

Thats the million dollar question. But apparently he wanted to stay close to home.

Urban did OK with Chris Leak one year not too long ago (well, maybe it was longer than that), and he wasn't a spread QB....

If the QB is smart, and learns from his coach, he should be able to play in any system. In 2002, when tOSU won the NCG, Craig Krenzel was the starting QB. Obviously, he was not a running QB, but he was smart when he did run.

He sure impressed Donaldson at CBS. The last game I had the audio up on that network was when he said that Snead was the most accurate passer he'd ever seen (in the LSU game). Immedialtely knew he had never seen a b12 or p12 game.

Telling his family to stay employed and keep living in AZ?

Been happening for years now!!! QBs that went to high school in Texas, but didn't play for the Longhorns: Stafford, Kolb, Skelton, Ponder, RGIII, Dalton, Brees, Tannehill, Mallett, Mckoy, Foles, Flynn, McElroy and on it goes!!!

Why do you think that Troy Aikman left Oklahoma and transferred to UCLA, years ago?? UCLA was more conducive to a passing quarterback.
