07:26 AM ET 07.31 | Credit forward Anthony Mantha for trusting his game. Deep down, forward Anthony Mantha reluctantly understands he's almost certainly destined to start next season playing junior hockey in Quebec. But that doesn't mean Mantha won't have his sights set high when his first NHL training camp begins in September. The Detroit Red Wings' first-round choice in last month's draft will be heading to Traverse City with every intention of opening the 2013-14 campaign Oct. 2 at Joe Louis Arena against the Buffalo Sabres. "I came here with a positive thinking trying to make the team because that's what every hockey player wants to do," Mantha, the 20th overall pick in this year's NHL entry draft, said at the club's annual Development Camp. "If it's not this year, then the next year I'll come back with the same thinking."

Yuck! Hate verbal diarrhea!

What's wrong with saying, "Tony knows he's going down to Quebec for another year of junior hockey."

don't be a doundting Thomas

Tomas Jurco was drafted high by the Red Wings a couple years ago. He put up great numbers as a top line wing for the St. John Sea Dogs, but struggled a bit last year with the Griffins.

The Wings need to do the same with Mantha. Yes, he may have great offensive talent and an abundance of confidence, but he needs to spend some time in the AHL first.

So the article says that the kid wants to play for Detroit, but if he doesn't make it this year he'll be back trying again next year. Wow. I'll bet they stopped the presses for that one.

Yep. They're not so desperate right now that they'll rush him into the line up. They'll give him all the time he needs to develop. Just ask Landon Ferraro.
