Sanchez failing under the spotlight

07:11 AM ET 08.01 | So far in camp, the bright lights haven't been kind to Mark Sanchez. [Sanchez] noticed Wednesday that more and more members of the Jets front office are watching his every move as he battles Geno Smith for the starting quarterback job. And if he was trying to impress them, he failed miserably. With all eyes on him, Sanchez completed three of 10 passes in team drills, with a touchdown, interception and one drop. The numbers don't tell the whole story -- it could have been worse. He had other throws that were nearly picked off, and had safety Dawan Landry been a half-step faster, that touchdown could have easily ended up a turnover. On the other hand, the drop in his stat line would have gone for another TD had Stephen Hill been able to reel it in.

Pretty early in the process to start doing "the drop coulda been a catch IF..."

I watched 4 Geno Smith games last year - that kid is not ready for prime time. NFL.COM said yesterday he isn't even in good cardio shape.

The Jets may not compete, but Sanchez is their best QB going into this season.

What is better than leftover pizza for breakfast? Nothing.

The Sanchez vs. Tebow now Sanchez vs. Smith saga is just not that interesting.

Sanchez is at best a backup QB. Can/Will Geno be better - we may see, but it can't hurt to try him out. I expect Sanchez to start the season, as for whatever reason, Ryan loves him. But I do not think Ryan will be afforded the same amount of leeway to just keep him in if he continues to struggle. And this could be shortened if Geno has a good preseason.

Great Jets story. Filled with ifs, buts and couldas. Typical.

And Buttfumbles.

It continues to amaze me that the Jets just can't see the obvious.

Sanchez isn't very good.

August 1, 2013  08:14 AM ET

But still, there is that tattoo to consider...

August 1, 2013  08:26 AM ET

Jets fans can take great comfort in knowing that Geno Smith is there to pick up the slack in the event Sanchez continues to play like.....well, Sanchez.

August 1, 2013  08:42 AM ET

Using the same tool and expecting different results.. Not a good strategy

August 1, 2013  08:44 AM ET

All these threads can be condensed down to two simple words: Sanchez sucks.

Don't listen to him JGB, don't listen. Just go about doing what you would normally do on a Thursday in the summer. And do NOT watch sports center or read any local papers.
