Deadline's biggest loser

07:19 AM ET 08.01 | Depending on your perspective, there were winners o' plenty in the 2013 trade deadline sweepstakes -- from the Orioles and Red Sox on the East Coast, the Dodgers on the West Coast and the Tigers in between -- but Milwaukee wasn't one of them. The two players they wanted to trade, they couldn't because Aramis Ramirez didn't come off of the disabled list in time and John Axford didn't pitch well enough to bring a decent offer. A starting pitcher that could have brought a decent return, Yovani Gallardo, stunk ... and that was before he limped off of the field with a leg injury Tuesday. Owner Mark Attanasio didn't want to deal Kyle Lohse or fan favorite Norichika Aoki. And then there's Ryan Braun. Poor Milwaukee fans. What's the latest with the Racing Sausages?

Yes, it is certainly raining Schlitz on the Brewers this year.

Good news Brew Crew fans it is only 5 weeks away until your Packers kick off the season or 4 weeks until the Badgers season opens.

Even with the roof closed at Miller Park.

Caaaarap! I'm visiting Milwaukee this fall and have tickets for a game. Wanted to see the stadium. I plan on drinking beer and eating my way through the game. I pray, and based on the article, it ain't one of those pitching duels. Lets get the darn thing over with.

Milwaukee did have rotten luck. But they had a chance to move some players early but decided to hold on and wait to the deadline to try to squeeze more out. That strategy bit them in the butt. Gallardo was pitching well in June. Ramirez was hitting well in late June and early July. Axford pitched very well from May 17th to July 24th, but was hammered in the last week of July. Melvin held these players too long. At least he did trade K-Rod.

Im not of the belief that just because you are having a bad season you have to get rid of every player on your team thats worth a damn. The trade deadline has turned into some stupid ESPN moment. Our top 3 hitters have been either injured or suspended all year. Brewers will be back next year.

The Brewers (aka Fighting Seligs) are a joke. Only Miami and Houston are worse run organizations. Well, and the Mets.

Kind of remind me of the Padres... Over the last 20 years, they have that one or 2 little blips... a glimmer of hope... a light in the darkness. And then it's gone...

Atleast it's better than the Bucs & Royals.

With a non-PED Braun I don't think can compete with their current roster. Within their own division the Cards will continue to be tough the Buccos should be even better next season as more of the prospects come up to the big league club.

It all depends on pitching. If Peralta can continue to improve like he did in June and most of July, and Gallardo can get some of his old form back, they would be in decent shape. Still need to find another starter in free agency and hope that another young starter can come up and compete. (Rodgers or Thornburg) I knnow, a lot of ifs.
But the bullpen has been very solid this year, and should come back next year with most of the same arms.
Then with Braun, Hart, and Ramirez back in the lineup, they COULD contend for a wild card.

Assuming they bring Hart back on a cheap 1 year deal.

Remember the 'tards who for the last year have been trashing anyone who said Braun was dirty? Where are they all now?

I know the D'Back reporters are up in arms as Braun had the winning hit that took them out of the playoffs.

I think the Tigers came out ahead getting a 1st class SS while everyone else got hopes and dreams in their trade.

Rangers got the pitcher they needed...

Too damn bad our bats went silent (last three nights notwithstanding.)
