07:24 AM ET 08.01 | For TCU quarterback Casey Pachall, there are no guarantees in his return to Gary Patterson's program. Speaking to the media Wednesday for the first time since he left the team in October after an arrest on suspicion of driving under the influence, Pachall took questions for about 10 minutes, answering steadily and looking relaxed. "I've matured a lot," Pachall said. ... Patterson reiterated that Pachall, a senior, and sophomore Trevone Boykin, who replaced Pachall last season, will battle for the starting job. TCU opens the season Aug. 31 against LSU at AT&T Stadium. "It's not going to be one of those where we split 50/50, one is going to be the starting quarterback," Patterson said. "If it's a tie the older guy is going to win."

I saw some of the press conference. Pachal was pretty humble and contrite. He left abruptly after answering the last question.

Patterson said the starter's job is not guaranteed and it will be earned based on what happens on the practice field.

LSU is a rough way to open the season to see which players can fill what rolls for any teams.

Based on what, their image? LSU is replacing most of their defensive starters. Facing TCU will be rough for these newbies as well.

Good article this morning... the kid seems very contrite. Time will tell.

Boykin is a good dual threat and performed admirably last year, but Pachal has NFL-level skills.

Practicing his hiding, for when the season gets going and LUS is hitting .333 in the W's vs. L's at the halfway point.

Yep... if the Frogs are gonna compete for a title it's with Pachall running the show.
