12:00 PM ET 08.01 | The Kansas City Chiefs are hoping to turn things around following their 2-14 season just a year ago and it will all begin with their new quarterback -- Alex Smith. The team believed that Smith, who was having the best season of his career before suffering a concussion and being replaced by Colin Kaepernick in San Francisco, is the answer to their problems under center and that he can help turn things around. In fact, the team believes in Smith so much that offensive coordinator Doug Pederson said he believes Smith is the best quarterback in the league.

Well Alex no pressure now.

He was leading the league in QB rating on a 6-2 team when he went down. And the rest of his numbers were top 5 or so.

I still don't think many GMs would want Smith over Brady, Manning, or even Big Ben. But there's a case to be made, at least.

Wait, what?

They used to think Matt Cassel was the best QB in the league...

Well you just named a few QB's from the AFC that are better than Smith. You forgot to put all the QB's from the NFC.

Smith is a good teammate and who knows he may be able to resume the kind of season he was having last year.

I'm going to say that Smith will be sacked more than 50 times , the more he gets sacked the more erratic his passes become.

I just hope Alex Smith leads his team to at least an 8-8 record.

I wonder if they will keep referring to Alex Smith as a good game manager?

That's because I think the AFC has the better QBs, and I was being generous. When (if) he plays a full season, Smith is miles ahead of Cam Nougat and Cutlet. Probably better than Eli-te. I'd say he's about even with Matty Ice. The only QBs far-and-away better than Smith in the NFC would be Rogers and Breesus.

Though the NFC has far superior QB nicknames.

Here is problem numero uno....

Once players begin getting concussions, they seem to get them easier and easier.

Alex could be out for 6 weeks by Sept 10.

I needed a good laugh this morning and this post over delivered on that!

Alex Smith is ok when he has men wide open and no pressure in his face. Otherwise he is interception and incompletion city.

I dunno, I think a couple of years under the same HC and OC, with a quality gameplan, Smith can do ok. A lot of his struggles seemed like he just didn't know what to do, or when to do it. If 2011-2012 is the quality of player that KC got, a 2 was a steal.

If you don't believe in your Quarterback, then you shouldn't be running an Offense, Good Job Dougie Boy, as the Late Great Toug McGraw would say, You Gotta Beleive!!! RIP Tugger!
