Chiefs OC on QBs: 'We have the best in the league'

07:10 AM ET 08.02 | The Chiefs paid a hefty price in acquiring quarterback Alex Smith from San Francisco, and there's little doubt the franchise's success hinges on his own this season. Smith led San Francisco to the NFC championship game in 2011 and started the first nine games of the 49ers' Super Bowl run a year ago, and Chiefs offensive coordinator Doug Pederson believes strongly in Smith. "Ultimately, every team has to have a quarterback," Pederson said. "I think we have the best in the league." The best? Better than Peyton Manning ... Tom Brady ... Drew Brees ... Joe Flacco ... Matt Ryan ... Eli Manning ... Colin Kaepernick ... ? "There are a lot of great ones," Pederson said, "but over time, Alex has proven he can get it done."

"I think we have the best in the league." With this, the NFL will drug test ALL team employees. Probable cause, if there ever was.

Well, compared to what they've had over the past few seasons, anyway...

It must be nice to live in a delusional world.

What did you expect a coach to say? That he isn't as good as the top QB's out there? Flacco used to get the same treatment but he proved you all wrong and given the opportunity, Alex Smith may do the same.

How about not saying anything. Do you hear other coaches making the same stupid statements? Let me help you...NO!!!

He waaaaaas aaaaasked abouuuut his QB!!!! Lets face it, If my team's OC says that about my QB, I would be thrilled especially from a franchise who never had a descent QB for almost a decade now since Trent Green left.

See what the coach thinks half way thru the year.........

Maybe he meant BBQ...

Bulletin board material......

"Hey, Colin...the Chiefs think they've got the best QB in the league. I'll take care of that for you.".....Patrick Willis

If Trent Green was the highlight of Chiefs QBs since Len Dawson, well that really is sad

Technically speaking the OC said he was better than the best. Dumb of him. So, if the KC offense is not lights out and you have the "best" QB in the league, then I would fire the OC.

August 2, 2013  09:00 AM ET

Wow, I just assumed drug use was rampant only with the players. The NFL has a far bigger problem on their hands. It reaches all the way to the coaches!!

YES 50!!

Considering what they had to work with in the last few years I can't blame the OC for saying that. It's a huge step up in QB from what they've had in the past.
