07:13 AM ET 08.02 | In what couldn't be considered a hasty search, Philadelphia may be nearing the naming of a replacement for Doug Collins. Brett Brown is the preferred candidate for the 76ers coaching job, according to a league source. If the job doesn't go to Brown, the search for Doug Collins' replacement will remain competitive, the source said. Portland Trail Blazers assistant David Vanterpool; Sixers assistant Michael Curry, a holdover from Collins' staff; and Boston Celtics assistant Jay Larranaga are believed to be the other serious contenders. The Sixers will not comment on the search and are not giving clues to when it will end. The source said majority owner Josh Harris did not attend any of the initial interviews. But he is expected to interview the finalists before the Sixers make a decision.

What kind of chance does a guy have if the guy signing the check isn't even there?

Wtf? Just sign somebody from the streets. How hard will it be to get the least wins in the NBA next season?

I can't imagine Sixers fans are real enthuiastic right now...

smart on their part... tank and take advantage of having ample CAP space to sign free agents and two top 10 picks in the offseason. If they somehow get Wiggins out of this and their other 1st rounder is in the top 10 they will be a solid team going forward...

I have seen tanks before, but this one is the mother of all tanks. I mean seriously, they are showing NO interest in the upcoming season whatsoever!!!!!

Almost as tough being a Mav's fan.

Not really. More like a Cavs fan... Being a Cleveland fan for any sport must be the pits. They have Seattle as the worse but I say Cleveland because of all the crap that they've gone through...

As a Sixers fan, I haven't been this excited since 2001. The ONLY thing that matters is ping pong balls. If they made Spencer Hawes a player/coach, I would be thrilled. JUST LOSE BABY!
