Odd man out in Detroit

07:29 AM ET 08.02 | Cory Emmerton finds himself in a precarious position. Emmerton was a bubble player coming out of training camp, but played in every game because he's a center, and because the Wings never had Darren Helm available. Emmerton averaged around 11 minutes, thanks in part to helping on the penalty kill. ... The Wings are keeping Emmerton, 25, for now because it's uncertain whether Helm will return from the back pain he suffered since January. If Helm can play, he'll be the third center, and Joakim Andersson will play in the fourth hole, leaving Emmerton the odd man out and vulnerable to a trade or waivers. If Helm can't play, Andersson moves up, and Emmerton will have a chance to keep the fourth-line position. To the Wings' advantage, Emmerton takes up very little salary-cap space.

The tone of this article suggests Emmerton is a liability. He's not. He did a solid job of centering that fourth line last year. The Wings can sleep easy knowing they've got very strong depth up the middle.

I'd hazard a guess to say that every team wishes they were able to say that

Tomorrow I'm on the bubble. I'm a good, gritty fan, but we're deep fan-wise down the middle. Hopefully I don't get traded to Calgary.

LOL - With Feaster there the Flames are looking for a "hotwings fan" so you're probably safe Santa.

Agree. Every team seems top have a couple of "odd man out" situations this year due to the low cap. It'll all even out as the season gets under way.

It's hard to be a Leafs fan, there are many, but we all have to take it like men.......without Cups.
