07:57 AM ET 08.03 | Embattled Eagles wide receiver Riley Cooper has been excused from all his team obligations, but coach Chip Kelly said the team wasn't considering cutting him. According to Geoff Mosher of CSNPhilly.com, Kelly said Cooper's leave of absence wasn't about getting him off the roster. "There has never been any question of cutting Riley," Kelly said. "His status with us is not in question." Kelly also said there was a team meeting without Cooper today, and no player has told him that they wouldn't play with Cooper.

Meanwhile... Charlie Rangel, a US Representative for New York's 13th congressional district, referred to the Tea Party as "white crackers" and no one bats an eyelash.

Yet.

Anyone who thinks this guy is a deebag because of this incident is wrong, he was a deebag before this ever happened. And a modest football talent that if he loses his job it will be because he is a modest football talent.

Riley cooper should send a thank you for your service note to Charlie Rangel , a man who was awarded a Purple Heart and four other Bronze and battle stars for his actions during the Yalu River battles of the Korean War. Because of men like him, they both have the freedom to say pretty much anything. And it appears they both do.

If he loses his job for that reason that is all fine, but if he loses it for something he said in a league were guys are playing after being convicted of felonies, then something is really out of whack

Sadly, the street does not go two ways.

Chippie--- he got rid of HIMSELF.... MORON!

August 3, 2013  09:22 AM ET

Philly has LOTS of problems---- mostly ON the field.... perhaps one day they can actually play a game and prove it...

Sure it does. Outrageous things are said at political rallies and concerts and anywhere else all the time. Look, Rangel grew up in a segregated world and spent four years , two in battle in a segregated U.S.Army Unit, that he still has a chip on his shoulder is from life experiences. What is Riley coopers reason? I was drunk?

Freedom of speech does not mean freedom from the responsibility and consequences of what you say.

That is true, but that is why he will be judged on the field. It is a business and if you can help me win you are in. Players go their own way off the field, always have.

August 3, 2013  09:31 AM ET

OK, I am going to drop it, because honestly, " I don't care ."

This guy deserves whatever happens to him. If there was a widely distributed video of me doing something similar, and all the people I work with saw it, I'd expect to lose my job over it. Why does poor little Riley get any different treatment?

The reason I find this all so hypocritical is the fact that defensive backs talk a lot of smack at the line of scrimmage. I'm sure plenty of racial crap has been slung Riley's way in an atempt to get inside his head.

Just consider the source!!! Don't ever take the Tea Party serious!!!
