08:44 AM ET 08.03 | Nick Brassell's Ole Miss career appears to have come to a close. The former South Panola standout is off the team, the school announced today. "We are very disappointed that Nick is no longer a part of our program," coach Hugh Freeze said in a statement. "While he showed much improvement, it was not enough to regain eligibility status. We wish him the best." Brassell, originally a member of the class of 2011, left Ole Miss in May 2012 to enroll at East Mississippi Community College because of academics. While he re-enrolled in January and went through spring drills, his chances of becoming academically eligible were always murky at best. Freeze said earlier this month that it did not look good, and said the staff had moved Dehendret Collins and Quintavius Burdette to cornerback in order to fill the gap.

I hate to see a kid sruggle but some do. I hope he sticks with it/keeps trying in school. Football can wait.
