08:50 AM ET 08.03 | The experiment of Jurickson Profar as a left fielder for the Rangers went into cold storage on Friday. Manager Ron Washington said he plans on primarily using Profar in the infield and at designated hitter for the duration of the season. Profar started at DH in the series-opener against Oakland. "I'm not saying that you won't see him out there," Washington said. "But you don't need to be coming to the ballpark looking for it." Profar, a natural middle infielder, began working in the outfield as the Rangers searched for ways to get him playing time. He has four starts in left but only one in the last 17 games. Profar picked up on the basics of the position and handled eight chances without an error. He played cautiously and did not take charge on fly balls in his area, putting the center fielder in difficult spots.

In the heat of a close division race is not the time to have someone learn a new position. I'm glad that outfield experiment with Profar is done. I think his hitting will improve now that he will only be playing the middle infield or DH...as already evidenced.

Right. The best time to experiment with a positional change is during spring training, not in mid season with a potential playoff berth in the balance.

They don't need learning on the job at this point in the season as they chase a playoff spot. This is NOT a surprise.
